ORIGIN: Waasweg was the old name for this site. Therein roots Chardonnay, which my father – driven by a combination of enthusiasm and market awareness – planted in the Riede a few decades ago. Knowing little about the variety, he nevertheless showed a fine sense for where it would grow best. The site is exposed to wind and consequently well ventilated, a circumstance of elementary importance, especially for Burgundy varieties. In conjunction with the relatively high lime content in the loess, the cool winds ensure a harmonious balance, especially during the harvest phase.
